How to make money online in Morocco

The routes that genuinely exist, what each one asks for, what each one pays, and which to start with. No promise of passive income or of a miracle method.

Type that question into a search engine and you will mostly get pages selling a course. This one sells nothing: it describes the routes that exist, what they ask for, what they pay, and at what stage they open.

A warning first, because it saves time: there is no online income without regular work. What does exist are activities where the work you do today keeps paying tomorrow — and that is very different from passive income.

This guide starts from the case of a fashion content creator in Morocco, because that is what we know. The logic holds beyond it.

Where the Moroccan market stands

The number of people publishing for an audience in Morocco has exploded in a few years: from around 1,400 in 2018 to some 60,000 in 2022, according to Marouane Harmach, a digital communications expert, quoted by Le360 in March 2025.

What that means for you in practice: the space is taken on general subjects, and it is still open on precise ones. A "fashion" account faces tens of thousands of others; an account about "size 44 and up in Morocco" faces almost none.

A second, less obvious consequence: brands now have plenty of choice for visibility, and far less for actual sales. That gap is exactly where affiliate sits, since it pays on orders rather than on views.

The four routes

Route 1 Affiliate

You recommend a product with a link or a code of your own, and you earn a commission on every order. No minimum audience: one order is one commission, whatever the follower count.

Route 2 Content for brands

A brand pays you to produce photos or videos it will publish itself. Your audience is not part of the deal: what is bought is your production work.

Route 3 Paid partnerships

A brand pays to be seen by your community. This is the model people picture when they say "influence", and it arrives last: it needs an established audience.

Route 4 Your own products

Selling what is yours: a curated edit, a guide, a collaboration piece. Full margin, no dependence — but everything is yours to build, from the product to customer service.

The first six weeks

01 Pick a niche A subject recognisable in one sentence. "Fashion" is too broad; "office outfits under 600 MAD" sticks.
02 Post ten times Before thinking about monetising, prove to yourself that you can keep the rhythm. Ten posts is the real test.
03 Measure Look at your engagement rate, not your follower count. The calculator on this site gives the figure from three inputs.
04 Open affiliate It is the only route that needs nobody's permission. It teaches you what your community buys.
05 Write to brands Three messages a week, to brands whose pieces you already wear. The templates on this site spare you the blank page.
06 Repeat what worked After six weeks you know which format sells. The rest is repetition.
Four received ideas
"You need a lot of followers" No. An account with 800 highly engaged followers often sells better than one with 20,000 indifferent ones. Brands know this and look at engagement.
"It is passive income" No. The income stops when the posting stops. What lasts is the community — and it needs tending.
"You need equipment" No. A recent phone and daylight are enough. What is most often missing is consistency, not gear.
"This income is not declared" It is. A commission is income, whether it arrives by transfer or in cash. Better to ask an accountant early than late.

Frequently asked questions

How long before earning your first dirhams?

On affiliate, from the first order placed with your link or code — that can happen in the first week. But the commission is only validated after the return window, and payment goes out on the 5th of the month. So expect a few weeks between the first sale and the first transfer.

Do you need a minimum follower count?

No, not for affiliate nor for UGC. Paid partnerships do need an established audience. That is why affiliate is the recommended starting route: it depends on no threshold.

Can you combine it with a job or studies?

Yes, and most creators do. Three hours a week sustained over months beat twenty hours for three weeks. Consistency counts, not volume.

Does this income have to be declared?

Yes. A commission is income, whether it arrives by transfer or in cash. The auto-entrepreneur status is the usual starting point, but thresholds and rates change with every finance act: ask an accountant rather than the internet.

Which platform should you start on?

TikTok if you have no audience yet, because discovery is fastest there. Instagram if you already have a small community that replies to you, because the trust is already in place.

What does it cost to start?

Nothing for affiliate: an account, a link, a phone. UGC needs the same kit. Only selling your own products calls for investment, and that is why it comes last.
