Affiliate marketing for beginners, with no budget
How a tracked link works, why a sale is or is not credited to you, and a thirty-day plan for your first commissions.
Affiliate is the only advertising model where the person recommending is paid solely if the recommendation lands. No budget to front, no invoice to send, no stock. In exchange, you have to understand exactly how a sale gets credited to you — that is where most beginners lose money.
What a tracked link is
A tracked link is an ordinary address with your identifier attached. When someone clicks, the shop leaves a marker in their browser. If that person buys within the set window, the sale is credited to you — even if they come back three days later by another route.
A promo code works differently: it is typed at checkout. It survives everything — a change of device, a private window, an app. That is why you should always give both: the link for those who buy straight away, the code for everyone else.
Why a sale can slip away
- The buyer clicked your link on a phone and bought on a laptop. Without the code, the sale is lost to you.
- She cleared her browsing data between the click and the purchase.
- She clicked another affiliate link after yours: in most programmes the last click wins.
- The attribution window has passed. It is limited, and it is stated in the programme rules.
The practical conclusion: always say your code out loud in a video, and write it on screen. It is the one thing that survives all of the above.

Week 1 — Choose, do not sweep
Select five pieces, not fifty. Pieces you would wear, in a price range that matches your community. A narrow edit you know well converts better than a catalogue you have never seen.
Week 2 — Show, do not describe
Post each piece worn, in a real situation. What your community cannot find on the product page is you: the size you took, how the fabric feels, what you pair it with, how it sits on a body they recognise.
Week 3 — Repeat without wearing thin
One post is never enough. Come back to the same pieces from another angle: a before and after, an answer to a question you received, a "what I kept, what I sent back". Repetition is only a fault when it is identical.
Week 4 — Read the numbers
Look at what got clicks and what got sales. They are not the same posts, and the gap is instructive: a post that draws clicks without sales usually means a price or a size was poorly explained.

- Hiding that it is a partnership. It is illegal in most cases, and above all it is the one mistake a community does not forgive.
- Putting the link in stories only. A story vanishes in twenty-four hours; a fashion purchase is often decided later.
- Recommending a piece you never received. One disappointment cancels ten successful recommendations.
- Giving up after three weeks. First sales almost always arrive later than hoped.
Affiliate does not reward reach. It rewards precision: the right piece, to the right community, genuinely explained.Read also How much does a fashion creator earn in Morocco? The maths, not the promises
And then
Once the mechanism is understood, everything comes down to consistency and to the choice of pieces. The rest — tiers, referrals, the media kit — is only there to help you do faster what you already know how to do.
