Instagram engagement rate calculator

The engagement rate tells you what share of your community reacts to what you post. It is the first figure a brand looks at — often before the follower count.

Take a representative post, neither your best nor your worst. For a fairer result, average your last ten.
Your engagement rate 5.36%

Above the benchmarks for your account size. This is what a brand is looking for: a community that reacts, not merely one that follows.

Benchmark for this size 2.5% – 5.0%
Interactions counted 268
The calculation counts likes and comments against followers. It ignores views, shares and saves, which do count towards reach: a modest rate with plenty of shares beats the opposite.
Benchmarks by account size
Account size Commonly observed rate
Under 1,000 followers 4.0% – 8.0%
1,000 to 10,000 2.5% – 5.0%
10,000 to 100,000 1.5% – 3.0%
100,000 to 1 million 1.0% – 2.0%
Over a million 0.8% – 1.5%

These ranges are orders of magnitude taken from industry studies, not a Modeacc measurement: they vary by country, niche and year. They are there to place an account, not to grade it. The constant rule is not in dispute: the bigger an account gets, the lower its rate.

Raising your rate
Ask real questions A closed question in the caption ("which one would you take?") draws more comments than a vague invitation to react.
Post less, better The rate is calculated per post: ten lukewarm posts drag it down faster than they grow the audience.
Reply to everyone A reply restarts the conversation and brings the person back, who then comments again next time.
Clean house Fake followers never react. They inflate the denominator and crush your rate.
What comes next

A good engagement rate turns into income when it meets a product worth recommending. At Modeacc there is no follower minimum — engagement is precisely what is looked at.
