Do you have to declare creator income in Morocco?

The principle, the possible statuses and the questions to put to an accountant. A marker so the subject does not catch you late.

This question arrives at the third or fourth payout, rarely before. The answer in principle is simple; the details change with every finance act, and nobody on the internet should be giving you definitive figures — this article included.

This article gives markers, not tax advice. Thresholds, rates and statuses change from year to year. Before taking any step, check with the Direction générale des impôts or an accountant.

The principle

An affiliate commission is income. Whether it arrives by bank transfer or in cash, whether it comes from a Moroccan or a foreign company, it falls within the scope of tax. The idea that "it is not a real salary" has no existence in tax law.

That does not mean setting up a company on your first commission. It means knowing from what point the question arises, and not discovering it after three years of activity.

The statuses you will come across

  • Auto-entrepreneur. This is the status most creators turn to: lighter formalities, simplified taxation, a turnover ceiling to respect. It is almost always the starting point.
  • Sole trader or company. Useful beyond the auto-entrepreneur ceiling, or when the activity diversifies (services for brands, resale).
  • Undeclared occasional activity. That is not a status. It is a situation, and it is easier to regularise early than late.

Questions to put to an accountant

An hour of consultation is usually enough to frame the situation. Arrive with these:

  1. From what annual amount must I declare, in my precise situation?
  2. Does the auto-entrepreneur status suit an affiliate activity, and what is this year's ceiling?
  3. How do I evidence commissions received in cash?
  4. Does income from a foreign platform change anything?
  5. What records must I keep, and for how long?

What you can do right now, for free

  • Keep a trace of every payment: date, amount, source. A simple spreadsheet is enough, and it will save you hours when the day comes.
  • If you can, separate the money from the activity from your personal spending. Even without a business account, a separate one simplifies everything.
  • Keep the programme statements. At Modeacc the payout history stays available in your creator space.
An hour of an accountant always costs less than a regularisation.

In short

Declaring is not a punishment, it is what makes the activity last: it opens partnerships that require an invoice, and it saves you from having to slow down just as things start working. The right reflex is to ask a professional before you need to.
